30 Days of Self Care: Day Twenty-Eight

30 Days of Self Care:  Day Twenty-Eight

Spiritual Self Care

Spiritual self care is something we can all benefit from. Over time we come to learn and understand that without it, life can become extremely difficult trying to go it alone. Building and enhancing your relationship with God allows for a lightening of our load during troubled times. A renewed spirit is necessary when we find ourselves carrying a heavier burden. Each step in our faith building brings about a brighter sense of purpose and passion, knowing and trusting God to help us through these more difficult seasons. You may find that leaning into God and his biblical word, will carry you through the lowest valleys, and onward back up to higher peaks. We will experience highs and lows in this life, but God will always be with us. Spiritual self care allows us to better understand who our Creator is and what our purpose is while we are going about our daily lives. We can turn to this type of self care to find peace and comfort, a new of feeling of refreshment and restoration that only God can provide. We can continue to grow deeper into our forming relationship with Him, trusting that the light He brings to us is the way to everlasting life in Heaven. Spiritual self care brings hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Remember:  We must serve ourselves first in order to go out and better serve the world.  Connecting and growing our relationship with God is vital to our overall sense of peace and joy in our Savior.  We can handle things when we are diving into the biblical word of God, remaining plugged into Him and seeing our prayers answered each and every day.

DAY TWENTY-EIGHT:  SPIRITUAL SELF CARE

There is a time to pray and a time to sing. Let's take a moment to look back over our lives and reflect on all the times God has helped us along the way. If you look closely, there are many. It is with reason to sing praises to the Lord when our Rescuer has indeed delivered us from our troubles. Where are you today? Are you in need of prayer or are you delivered and now is the time for praise and worship? As seasons come and go, so are our times of spiritual prayers and celebrations. Remember this, all things will continue to flow. You will find yourself in times of great hardship and troubles; however, you will also find yourself in times of great joyful deliverance. Be prepared for both. And remember where your help comes from? Your help is from the Lord.

BIBLICAL VERSES FOR SPIRITUAL SELF CARE:
  • "And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him."--1 John 5:15
  • "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."--Philippians 4:6
  • "The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles."--Psalm 34:17
  • "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,"--Ephesians 1:18
  • "Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise."--James 5:13

ACTION STEPS

Here are a few ways we can cover our spiritual self care today:
  • Spend time singing Christian worship songs. Turn your car radio dial to K-Love station.
  • Pray with your family. Make it a natural part of your family time by asking what they need.
  • Say a prayer of blessing before every meal, no matter if you are in private or public.
  • Count backwards as you visualize each part of your body relaxing--start with your head.
  • Create a family blessings jar--jotting down a note that goes in the jar & read when full.
  • Hang with other spiritual people who lift you up with flowing Christian conversation.
  • Listen to a Podcast of your favorite pastor or preacher.
  • Attend a different church to experience something new--be open-minded.
  • Volunteer at your church. They truly need more members to step up and help in some way.
  • Create essential bags for the homeless and hand them out wherever you go.
