30 Days of Self Care: Day Thirty

30 Days of Self Care:  Day Thirty

Mental Self Care

Mental Self Care is doing things that take care of our minds, bodies and souls by engaging in activities that help promote our well being, in an effort to reduce or eliminate the factors in our lives that cause anxiety, worry or stress. But, we must consider that it is not a one time deal--we need to continue a habitual routine of self care throughout our lives. It must become so engrained into our daily living that it happens naturally and without much thought to its efficacy or importance. We are important. We should continue to make ourselves a priority. The process to maintain balance in our lives is a continuation of good choices, right decisions and best efforts to maximize our optimal living. A vehicle without fuel does not work. Sure, put gas in it and it goes, but over time, if it is not properly maintained, there becomes more problems along the way. Your mental health care during seasons of stress can cause you to not properly function well. Quitting is not an option. Keep working on your self care and allow the time necessary to be the vehicle that can go for long durations, because its owner took really good care of it. This world needs what you have to offer. Continue making good choices and stay in the race of living an optimal life!

Remember:  We must serve ourselves first in order to go out and better serve the world.  Quitting is not an option.  Keep finding new ways to take care of yourself so that you can live a long life of well being and being productive.  The world needs you.

DAY THIRTY:  MENTAL SELF CARE

We all want the wisdom and knowledge needed to carry us through this life in order to live it well. God shows us in his biblical word, in the instruction from others, in the ways He chooses to lay things out in our lives, in the seen and unseen miracles performed regularly for us and in so many other ways known only by our Creator. Our job is to trust in these instructions and practice them daily in our actions, behaviors and attitudes towards ourselves and unto others. Knowledge without action is dead words.
In Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary he shares: "May the purity, peace, gentleness, teachableness, and mercy shown in all our actions, and the fruits of righteousness abounding in our lives, prove that God has bestowed upon us this excellent gift." This knowledge is only from God. There is no other source that will provide a good life and a life everlasting once we leave this world. Remember today, to keep pressing forward. Continue to love God and love your neighbors, by performing deeds that only come from God Almighty's knowledge and wisdom He has showered you with. Oh what an excellent gift like no other. You are equipped--now share what you have learned with others. This world needs you.

BIBLICAL VERSES FOR MENTAL SELF CARE:
  • "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom."--James 3:13
  • "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,"--2 Timothy 3:16
  • "The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”--Exodus 14:14
  • "Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ."--1 Peter 1:13
  • "See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ."--Colossians 2:8

ACTION STEPS

Here are a few ways we can cover our mental self care today:
  • Change your scenery. Get to another area, just beyond the bend, for an overnight respite.
  • Some people say go to the quietest place in the neighborhood: the cemetery. They listen.
  • Unplug and be a kid again. Go for an ice cream!
  • Love mathematics? Search online for hard problems and take a crack at solving them.
  • Write a book. Take all that knowledge you have and share it with the world.
  • Trust in your own intuition, guidance with prayer and perhaps, stop listening to ill advice.
  • Take a break from your cell phone. Don't accept texts or calls for a block of time.
  • Wash your face or take a quick shower. Sometimes it's time to be refreshed.
  • Say yes to some video games. A short amount of time can be a great mental break.
  • Go pick wild flowers, collect pine cones, seashells or rocks out in nature.

Take good care of yourself and then show others what you have learned.  Knowledge is no good if it cannot be shared.  Now take action:  recharge, refuel and refresh.  Now you are ready to go out there are serve others well!

Have a blessed day, Kimala
