30 Days of Self Care: Day Fourteen

30 Days of Self Care:  Day Fourteen

Spiritual Self Care

When we work on our spiritual self care we are saying that we need to refocus on our spiritual, religious or internal thinking. Go back to Day Seven to read again the description of what Spiritual Self Care is and why it's so important.

There are times indeed that we can become disconnected spiritually. Perhaps this is due to the constraints of normal living these days, job demands, financial woes, health issues and a multitude of reasons that cause us to feel apart from God or any kind of spiritual path that we seem to be taken away from. It's normal to experience what is called a dry season, where you may be feeling like you are lost in going in any direction that would give you the confidence and courage you need right now. Doing things to bring us back to our center, to our spiritual place where we feel joy and peace and hope, is truly something we all long for. If you are feeling this way, then take a moment to do some kind of appropriate action that would enlighten you to where you need to go next, where you need to belong, restoring your peace and serenity that allows you to be the best you that you can offer to others. God provides way to maintain this focus and only wants what is best for you. Refocus and regain your peace today.

Remember:  We must serve ourselves first in order to go out and better serve the world.  Get reconnected with God today by doing things that will bring you closer to Him and be a reflection of God to others.  Refill your cup and gain the true joy and peace that only He can offer.

DAY FOURTEEN:  SPIRITUAL SELF CARE

In case you haven't noticed, God is ready and willing to work with you. Seems like sometimes we forget, don't we? We run to every person we know asking for advice. Like a bull in a china closet, we smash through with our ideas and ways because we think we know what's best or how best to fix things. But in reality, we can sometimes make more of a mess than when things first began. God wants your full attention. He wants you to abide in Him and He in you. If you are walking with Christ, then as a believer, you have the power of Christ in you as the Holy Spirit. It is there to guide you and redirect you the rest of your days. God wants us to turn to Him for all things. He says to ask in His name and you will receive. He wants us to live a life of joy. That does not mean we are to be happy all the time. Strife and turmoil will come, no matter what. But to live with JOY means we can always be guaranteed our place with God in eternity in heaven. That joy cannot be stripped from us. No darkness can rob us of the joy we have inside us. But there is one who would like to fool us into thinking that it can be done. Say aloud "ENOUGH!" Turn to God today and prayerfully ask for what you need in Jesus' name. Let Him fill you with the peace of knowing Him and the joy that is established from the moment He took our sins and bore them at the cross. Let your joy be so full it overflows! Show others what that really looks like so that they can feel His presence when they are in yours.

BIBLICAL VERSES FOR SPIRITUAL SELF CARE:
  • "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."--Deuteronomy 31:6
  • “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."--Joshua 1:9
  • “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”--Isaiah 41:10
  • "Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete."--John 16:24

ACTION STEPS

Here are a few ways we can cover our spiritual self care today:
  • Spend the first 20 minutes of your morning reading a Daily Devotional passage.
  • Do a 10 minute body scan technique and check in with each part of your body.
  • Do something nice for someone in secret.
  • Wherever you go today, find five unexpected beautiful things along the way.
  • Sit quietly in your favorite spot without interruption for some time.
  • Write a love letter to God telling Him all the reasons you are thankful for your life.
  • Help others out today by doing something random: give them the parking space, hold open the door, pay for the person behind you in the coffee drive thru.
  • Practice relaxation techniques--can use mental imagery, calm music and more.
  • Share with someone less fortunate--buy them lunch, offer water, clothing, etc.
  • 5 Finger Prayer: those closest, teachers & healers, leaders, the weak & sick, yourself.

Today, do something for your spiritual self care.  Reconnect with God in a way that fills you back up.  Try to lay down your problems at the cross and let Him show you a better way than what you can do on your own.  He is waiting to hear from you.

Have a blessed day, Kimala
