30 Days of Self Care: Day Eight

30 Days of Self Care:  Day Eight

Emotional Self Care

When we work on our Emotional Self Care we are saying to our selves that our emotional state matters. Go back to Day One to read again the description of what Emotional Self Care is and why it's so important.

We all have days when our emotions bubble to the surface and either we cannot stop being angry or upset and simply need an outlet. You may go for a while not realizing this is what is happening or you may be in tune with yourself and jump to action with grabbing some self care immediately. Often our emotions get the best of us because we may feel misunderstood by others. It matters most when the people in opposition of you are those you truly care about or have to be joined together by family, a team, organization or work environment. God sees your heart. He knows when you are feeling down and need a pep talk to get your world right again. Take steps to self correct, getting you back on track to feeling like you can handle whatever comes your way. It's okay to allow time for you and it's okay to do a heart check and purge any unwanted feelings that come your way. Give yourself time to self reflect and affirm who you are. Today is a great day for YOU!

Remember:  We must serve ourselves first in order to go out and better serve the world.  Spend time with God today.  Be good to yourself with positive self love affirmations and you'll be inspired to put your best foot forward, helping others along the way!

DAY SEVEN:  EMOTIONAL SELF CARE

A sound heart is when a person is in healthy condition, of which the passions and emotions are under control. We all want to live in tranquility, that peaceful place where if we look out at the water it's so still that we stare until we see something finally move in it. When we are in a good place inside, when we have nothing or no one that is bothering us to put us in distress, we can feel that kind of calm. But when envy or jealously rears its ugly head, it destroys us in ways we may not even recognize. If we allow ourselves to wallow in this kind of misery, it is exactly playing into the hands of evil for we are no good for ourselves nor others if we believe the lies and self sabotage. God says to keep our eyes on Him. He knows your heart and wants it well. He wants us to live in peace and harmony within, so that we may go out and emulate this to others. Take a good look and see where your heart is today. Readjust if you need to and get onto living the life God desired for you all along.

BIBLICAL VERSES FOR EMOTIONAL SELF CARE:
  • "A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."--Proverbs 17:22
  • "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."--Philippians 4:6-7
  • For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."--2Timothy 1:7
  • "A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot."--Proverbs 14:30

ACTION STEPS

Here are a few ways we can cover our emotional self care today:
  • Rejoice this morning in your prayer time with all that is right in your life.
  • Pass out compliments to everyone you see today.
  • Give yourself permission to say "My feelings are important." Self soothe.
  • Ask a good friend to give you positive feedback by sharing what they love about you.
  • Only give yourself 3 goals today, so that they are attainable. Go easy on yourself.
  • Create an inspirational collage and hang it in your room or at your work space.
  • Need to get something off your chest? Speak aloud with no one around. Lay it all out.
  • No news or politics for one week. Let all that negative noise go.
  • Anger needs to go bye bye! Grab a pillow, pull to your mouth and let out a good scream.
  • Recite some self-love affirmations, such as "Today I choose me" and "Happiness flows from me" and "I have everything I need" and "I am blessed."
