30 Days of Self Care:  Day One
Emotional Self Care
Today, I want to begin the journey of Self Care by taking each day and offering solutions, helpful tips and ways that will improve your overall health and well being.  Decide to take this as a personal commitment to yourself that you will raise your level of awareness and implement some or all of these suggestions.  You will find yourself at times, struggle with some of what is being offered, perhaps because it is new to you or you may think you are undeserving.  No matter.  You can decide and choose what is best for you.  The goal is to implement enough of these so that they become a normal routine and day by day, you will grow to become A BETTER YOU!
Remember:  We must serve ourselves first in order to go out and better serve the world.
DAY ONE:  EMOTIONAL SELF CARE
When we work on our emotional self care we are saying to our selves that our emotional state matters.  Feelings come and go.  We need to recognize that we have a wide range of them as well.  If they did not matter, God would not have given them to us.  We can also learn to trust that if we decide we are being too emotional and need a break, we can turn to our handy list of ways to do just that.  Our behaviors are often based on our emotions.  If we want to change our behaviors, we need to address our emotions and feelings.  We may decide that how we behave needs to change.  Linking certain feelings to certain behaviors can create patterns for ourselves.  For example, if every time you get angry you decide to behave by yelling at others, this could cause problems in your relationships.  If you find that you do want to change this, you have the power to do just that.  Remember, God knows your struggles.  He cares so very much for you. Trust that if you take it to Him in prayer, He will reveal to you where you find yourself stuck and give you the courage to change.  Then He will give you the wisdom to retrain how to act whenever those feelings surface again.  It's all behavioral patterns and we have the ability to choose better for ourselves.
BIBLICAL VERSES FOR EMOTIONAL SELF CARE:
1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
Psalm 147:3
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Exodus 14:14
“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
ACTION STEPS
Here are a few ways we can cover your emotional self care today:
*Keep a running list of wonderful attributes about yourself. Start with "I am..."
*Have a good long cry, if you need to.  Better to be in a private setting.
*Watch a heartfelt movie that evokes emotion in you.
*Do one thing today just because it makes you happy.
*Dedicate a week to only posting positively on social media.
*Make a gratitude list of all the things you can think of to be grateful for in your life.
*Revisit happier times by going over old emails, photos, letters or postcards.
*Give.  See how good it feels to just give to others with no expectation in return.
*Stop being your worse critic.  Don't judge yourself.  Allow mistakes. Begin again.
*Begin using the 4-7-8 Breathing Technique to relax from any stress or anxiety.
