The Ten Commandments: #7Do Not Commit Adultery
The Ten Commandments
#7 YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.
Let's be frank, shall we? The bible puts adultery in simple terms. Don't do it. Don't even think about it. But, we are tempted in every way to lead us down a path of sexual immorality from the television, movies and media we consume, to the way we dress baring all our privacy, and to the way we talk, act, speak, joke and more with one another. Sex sells--or so they tell us, is the reason why it's everywhere. Marriage should be sacred and honored till death do us part. Marriage is important in the eyes of God. Many today choose to live together, even have children together, but not marry. Adultery is also choosing to have sex outside of marriage, even if you consider yourself in a monogamous relationship. The Lord wants us to honor the commitment he chose for us to live with. He does not want his children to depart from the inheritance of His everlasting kingdom.
VERSES
"Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body."--1Corinthians 6:18
"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral."--Hebrews 13:4
"I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”--Matthew 19:9
"But a man (or woman) who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself."--Proverbs 6:32
"Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. "--1Corinthians 7:8-9
"For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him. So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man.''--Romans 7:2-3
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."--Matthew 5:27-28
"Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."--1Corinthians 6:9-10
"It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;"--1Thessalonians 4:3-5
"May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe, a graceful deer— may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be intoxicated with her love. Why, my son, be intoxicated with another man’s wife? Why embrace the bosom of a wayward woman? For your ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all your paths. The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them; the cords of their sins hold them fast. For lack of discipline they will die, led astray by their own great folly."--Proverbs 5:18-23
