Fruits of the Spirit: Self Control

Fruits of the Spirit

DAY SEVEN: Self Control
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.’’—2Timothy 1:7
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”—1Corinthians 10:13

Self Control is a trained discipline. It takes much practice, over time, to master in the moment. We have all succumb to temptation, in one form or another. Looking back we can see our mistakes and oftentimes, can actually remember that God did indeed give us a way out, whether we chose to take it or not. Moving forward, we can pray for the Holy Spirit to take action within us whenever we are in need of more self-control. We can learn to turn our cheek, smile in the face of adversity, be confident in the matter at hand and even walk away. Learning the tools and skill set to endure with love is exactly what God is asking from us.
DEFINITION
Self Control is the ability to control oneself, in particular one's emotions and desires or the expression of them in one's behavior, especially in difficult situations.
Synonyms are self-discipline, self-restraint, restraint, control, self-mastery.

Self Control in the bible says it is a sign that Christ is in us. If we let our desires lead our decisions, our lives (and our bodies) can quickly spin out of control. Self-control is a discipline that God grows in us when we continually choose to die to our flesh and live in Him.
THE TASK TODAY: There will be plenty of opportunity today to exercise the discipline of self control. Look the matter straight on and declare to yourself, “I have the Holy Spirit within me and I am confident I can remain calm, smile and walk away. Nothing will shake me. I am surefooted and able to be in control of my actions and feelings.” Today I will claim victory through Christ our Lord. Amen.
We are better together.
Have a blessed day, Kimala
