Fruits of the Spirit: JOY

 Fruits of the Spirit

Day Two: JOY
“The Joy of the Lord is my Strength.”—Nehemiah 8:10
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."--John 1:5

Just like physical fruits need time to grow, the fruit of the Spirit will not ripen in our lives overnight. As we mature in our faith, all the characteristics of our spiritual fruits will grow as well. The second fruit of the Spirit is Joy. The word ‘joy’ appears nearly 200 times in the Bible, which helps us understand just how important this second sweet fruit of the Spirit really is. Joy is a condition of the heart. In Greek, the word for joy is ‘chara.’ This describes a feeling of inner gladness, delight or rejoicing. This inner gladness leads to a cheerful heart and a cheerful heart leads to cheerful behavior. You can have an attitude of joy even in adversity. We can be struggling in life, but still have a peaceful joy inside us because the Holy Spirit resides with us. God knows our problems and calls us to rejoice despite them. We are to live a full life of joy and promise of our deliverance.
JOY
Definition: a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. Delight, jubilation, triumph, exaltation. But joy, in its fuller, spiritual meaning of expressing God’s goodness, involves more. It is a deep-rooted, inspired happiness. Joy comes when you make peace with who you are and how you are, whereas happiness tends to be externally triggered and is based on other people, things, places, thoughts and events.
Other synonyms of joy are glee, exhilaration, ebullience, rejoicing, exultation, triumph, jubilation, delight, gladness, cheerfulness, bliss, satisfaction.

The Task Today: Dwell on your inner joy. Regain that special kind of peace today by not focusing on any problems, fears or struggles you may be experiencing. Trust that this inner peace will spill over into all that you do today. Remind yourself that no matter what, God has it covered. Rest in this inspired happiness, the special way you have developed your relationship with God. When you feel the desire to speak about your problems, I want you to begin smiling. It will stop you in your tracks from going on about the negative conversation and turn your problem on its head, smacking it into a field of joyful peace!
Enjoy today smelling the flowers and take delight in the incredible cheerfulness and joy you will have, as you walk along holding hands with your heavenly Father.
We are better together.
Have a blessed day, Kimala
