30 Days of Self Care: Day Twenty
Social Self Care
Social self care is a necessity that we all have in common. We are not designed to do life alone which is why it's so important to be involved in your community. Whether it's volunteering in your local town, building a network of like-minded folks in one aspect of life, or growing your social support and a larger sphere of influence, community care plays a vital role in our wellbeing because we are all wired to be joined together in some fashion. Connections foster the feelings of love, empathy, and acceptance, which are essential for sustaining a stable healthy lifestyle. In current times, it might be hard for folks who had to figure out how to gather in community with friends and family while maintaining social distancing, respecting people's boundaries or have no face to face contact at all. Still, there are ways to maintain social self care that can comprise all of the above. Being six or more feet apart may look like meeting outside at a park and sitting with chairs at that distance. Or maybe it may look like Facetime or Skype with someone you care about. No matter what it looks like, do not give up on being social. Be creative and stay plugged in with all of those who matter to you most.
Remember: We must serve ourselves first in order to go out and better serve the world. Taking care of our social self care is a necessary for us to be well connected in the community we choose to live in. Whether online or in person, socialize with those who matter to you.
