30 Days of Self Care:  Day Twenty-Three

Mental Self Care

Being in the right frame of mind, having quality things in our lives, keeps us pleasantly enjoying each day as it comes. Taking good care of your mental health can balance out your life and bring much-needed peace into your daily routine, helping you keep your relationship with yourself intact and positive. It is not about overscheduling, but rather it's about pinpointing what actions you need to take part in to keep yourself afloat and content.

There will be days when you will need a mental health reboot. A buzzing mind can be innovative and productive at times, but a buzzing mind can also be distracting and stretched. For many people, they experience feelings of anxiety or depression when they do not prioritize their mental self-care. The impact of mental self-care on mental health is significant and should not be overlooked. Doing things for yourself to ensure a quality life does not have to be a hardship. It can come easier and more regularly than you think. We can all use ways to improve our overall  outlook on life and can have our lives feel more fulfilling. Don't be too hard on yourself. It can take some practice to learn what works best for you, so don't wait! Get started today.

Remember:  We must serve ourselves first in order to go out and better serve the world.  Give yourself a mental health reboot.  It's time to take good care of your mental well being by making you the priority.

DAY TWENTY-THREE:  MENTAL SELF CARE

Have you ever met people who do not believe in the Bible? I can remember the first time a dear friend told me that she did not think the bible was really God's word. She said it was just a bunch of old lies some preachers and prophets made up to control people. Gosh, I can remember how much that hurt. Up until that point, I had never met anyone who didn't believe the Bible wasn't real. Now, years later she believes. I am so thankful that I stood up for God way back then so she understood that there was no compromise from me in this area of my beliefs. Are you standing up for God's word? We are living present times in a world of hurting people, who will try to dissuade others that God is not real and that if he was, then why is he letting people suffer. This is what is truth: God is real, He is standing by our sides, He is helping and providing in ways and in his timing. We must trust in his plan. We need to capture any thoughts or ideas that would try to discourage us from this truth. Jesus is coming back and in that final hour, all with know and see Him in an instant. Keep your eyes and hearts focused on Jesus. He is the way, the truth and the life. Amen.

  • "We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,"--2 Corinthians 10:5
  • "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."--Philippians 4:8
  • "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."--Romans 12:2

ACTION STEPS

Here are a few ways we can cover our mental self care today:
  • Invite friends over to play cards after dinner.
  • Indulge for a meal, with your favorite comfort foods.
  • Watch a classic movie and recite your favorite scenes as they happen.
  • Do some mental exercises with word challenges like a crossword puzzle or find the word.
  • Get your mind off of things by being there for someone else instead.
  • Explore your mental mathematics by doing Sudoku, a logic-based, combinatorial number-placement puzzle.
  • For some, a glass of wine, does the trick. (consult your doctor first.)
  • Call a friend and catch up. Sometimes some lighthearted human connection helps.
  • Look at your bad habits and drop one. Replace it with a good habit that you can live with.
  • Declutter. Fill up one bag of things you no longer want or need and drop off to charity.
