30 Days of Self Care: Day Two

30 Days of Self Care:  Day Two

Mental Self Care

Today, I want to begin by recognizing that Self Care is hard.  We too often, put everyone else before our own needs.  The schedule is usually packed with all the To Do's of family members, work schedules, volunteer commitments and more.  When it's finally our time, we just don't see where we can squeeze it in.  Perhaps you are a mom or grandma with small kid responsibilities.  If this is the case, then you know it's all eyes and hands on deck!  Your time begins once their are either asleep or gone.  Pre-committing to finding time is crucial.  The goal is to implement your Self Care so that no matter how busy the day gets, you already have your time dialed in.  Make it happen and day by day, you will grow to become A BETTER YOU!

Remember:  We must serve ourselves first in order to go out and better serve the world.

DAY TWO:  MENTAL SELF CARE

When we work on our mental self care we are saying to our selves that our minds need time to rest and the ability to re-coop, while at other times it may really need more challenges, stimulation and increased opportunities to learn something new.  The saying goes "use it or lose it" and not only is that true to our physical bodies, but even more so of our minds.  We must continue to grow in our learning, challenging ourselves in ways like we have never considered.  And in consideration of unplugging and getting clear-headed, we must find the time to rest and reboot!

BIBLICAL VERSES FOR MENTAL SELF CARE:

Proverbs 1:5
Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance.

Proverbs 18:15
An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Psalm 127:2
It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.

Hebrews 4:11
Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.

ACTION STEPS

Here are a few ways we can cover our mental self care today:

*Avoid "toxic" people.  They are a real drain to your system.
*Use your hands and sew, quilt or crochet a small project.
*Write a poem.  You can do a short and easy limerick or haiku.
*Take a nap with no alarm.  Wake up naturally.
*Play a board game that requires skill like Chess or Catan.
*Read fiction short stories or novels for a set amount of time.
*Learn more about the history in the local area and visit them if possible.
*Take a different route to work.  New scenery can be helpful.
*Five minute breaks throughout the day to be playful or laugh together.
*Learn how to say "no."  Lessen your commitments.

KIMALA'S  VIDEO ON SAYING NO:

Remember that today your mind needs both rest and challenges.  Some need one or the other for the whole day, while others need these to be intermittent, switching back and forth.  Only you know exactly what you need. Ask God to show you today how to best handle your mental Self Care.  He gives you the rest and the knowledge to carry you forward through answered prayers.  Remember that saying No is actually saying Yes to yourself.  We are in this together.

Have a blessed day, Kimala
